I'm currently an undergraduate student and am majoring in Nutritional sciences. I've always had an interest in psychology though and so by the time I graduate, I'll have about 20 credits from psych classes.

I'm interested in becoming a surgeon and have been for a long time, but recently have been thinking about the pros and cons of psychiatry vs surgery. I really enjoy helping people and have always been an analytical person. I think both require you to go to med school.

Has anyone been here before, where they weren't sure which was the better choice for themselves in the long run? If anyone has any advice or personal experience, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Yes, both require med school; it is during residency that you receive specialty-specific training. Best advice I can give you is concentrate on getting into medical school now, and when you actually have exposure to clinical practice of the various specialties in 3rd year, decide then.

agree with the above. you are putting the cart way before the horse. focus on what is important now. you will find out which one is for you in years 3 and 4 of med school. You may even decide that neither are for you. most people change their minds in med school.

Chances are you will change your mind 5 times before you need to decide. Have fun in the meantime

How about neurology? or neurosurgery?

Best places for a day in the life of a... Or for sensing the types scenarios going down in field X. Is the residency forums.

You have people there applying to these fields. And a few attendings who stop by to drop knowledge.

I don't know the surgery forum but the psych one has a handful of attendings who frequent who are superb at communicating the specialty to readers.

Searching technique is requisite skill for many information infused careers. This one especially.

The spot you chose to dig...is not likely gonna bring clear water. What made you think it would?
