Followup to http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/psychology-of-numbers.1166870/. Apparently it was felt that 22 was too large a number. Given that, which of the following representations of 19 feels the smallest?

The previous thread established simplicity as a desirable outcome. Perhaps the results will be different here given the extended duration of the poll. Especially given some indicated a preference for 18+1 over 19.

Thanks in advance.

@ranob , what are you trying to figure out, here?

He's trying to get his advisor to agree to let him over-extend himself (again) and take more credit hours than university policies allow.

@ranob, AdComs won't be impressed by your obscene courseloads, particularly if they come at the expense of a sub-optimal GPA. If you want to take more courses, AUDIT some. That way you can learn the information anyway and drop if needed.

Seems like he may be overthinking it a bit ...

Why don't you just save classes for the summer terms and winter break?

These numbers remind me of the error bars on my dissertation research

Nice tricks you got there, dawg!

Do you also do kids parties?

Auditing isn't really all that feasible. It involves a ton of paperwork and is highly discouraged.

Perhaps

I have other plans for the summer

Have you tried having a rational, adult discussion about academic decisions instead of fruitlessly trying amateur psychology tricks?
Naturally. The psychology is for when the discussions don't end up panning out. A last resort if you will that takes relatively little time and has a high potential payoff.

And yet the far and away most likely outcome is that this will not affect anything
IMO it's worth a shot. Best to try everything possible so that there are no regrets in this matter

How you do in the courses matter way more than the units. If you put effort into buckling down and doing your coursework, you can easily handle another course.
Fixed that for you

Thanks for voting all. Seems they wanted the extra credit(s) to be spent on a liberal arts course; the 16+3 formulation probably helped emphasize that this was the case.
