hey i'm wondering if I have a chance to get into any schools. I have an undergrad g.p.a from U.C Davis of 2.8. My last 60 units however is about 3.2."had a full Division 1 wrestling scholarship took time to adapt" I have a double major in sociology social services and communication.
I also just finished my Master's in Marriage & Family Therapy with a 3.8 overall G.p.A. I also have alot of clinical experience three years in variety of of places. Do i have a shot for any psyD programs.
I applied to Wright Ins got an interview but didn't get accepted....
Does diversity matter.. I'm full native american raised on reservation my whole life a unique story, very few natives are in my position
I"m studying for GRE as I Type will take it in couple of months
I have three letter of recs from PhD. One a clinical pscyologists and one a counseling psychologist phd. and school psy phd

Thanks any Advice would drastically help me

Honestly, that UG GPA will hurt you. The graduate GPA is great, but course work in those type programs is notoriously easy, so doubt it can make up for it totally. Some programs have an absolute GPA cut off of 3.0 for UG as well, no matter what you've done since. You would need a seriously high GRE as well. Keep in mind graduate level course work in a doctoral program in clinical psych is much more difficult in terms of both the conceptual level and load of work than an MFT. You need to demonstrate that you can handle it. Research experience? Don't know if the diversity issue would play in or not?

Your GPA may keep you out of the best PsyD schools but as the previous poster said you may be able to balance that if you do really well on the GRE.

You will also want to work hard on your personal essay to craft a story that makes them want to meet you.

I applied to several PsyDs with only a non-psych undergrad degree (3+ GPA) but the real distinguishing factor was that I did well on both the GRE and Psych GRE. I was accepted to 3 of 5 programs to which I applied.

Take the Psych GRE ASAP. If you do well on that, it will definitely offset your UG GPA issues.

Also, would you consider PhD?

I don't think its wise to make definite statements like that. Second, this person can barely hope to squeak into at Psy.D. level. They would certainly not be competitive at a Ph.D level. Moreover, they show absolutely no history or interest in research.

This implies that all Ph.D's are above Psy.D's, which isn't the case....though with that being said, the average accepted GPA for doctoral programs is 3.5 or so.....one of the Norcross publications has this info, though I've seen it in at least a journal or two.

So what psyd schools am I looking at are there any programs with a strong multicultural emphasis......

I'm heading to Wright State University in Ohio for their Psy.D. program in the fall, and they're all about diversity. I'm not sure how competitive all of the applicants are, but I think your background would help you at a program like this.

Take a look at JFK University PsyD program, it might be what you are looking for, in terms of multicutural emphasis (as I heard, very strong) and probability of being accepted there. I have heard it is a decent school, know nothing about their reputation, it might not be one of the top PSyD programs in the Bay Area, but if it will meet your needs, hey.. it's not that bad.
