Hello!

I observed in my university's outpatient facility, where I saw mostly students with sports related injuries. Would I classify this as general orthopedics and sports on the application? I'm not sure if sports is defined as a PT working with a football team, for example, or if sports injuries count.

Also, what exactly falls under the "Other" category? I don't think I have anything that would fall under it, but I'm just curious.

Thanks!

The only things I could think of for "other" is palliative care (like for cancer, hospice, and HIV patients), animal rehab (yes, the APTA actually recognizes this), and vestibular rehab. They all have their own special interest groups, so I see it as fine to list them under "other." I can't imagine anyone on an admissions committee not being ok with it.

And perhaps amputation specialists. Again, I see this as different from ortho or neuro.

All of these are "different" or "outside of the box," and anyone who has worked with these populations should definitely get extra credit or a second look for them! 🙂

ETA: I just thought of another one. There is a PT at our clinic that only does wheelchair, walker, stander, etc fittings. I think that would be "other."

Cool, thanks for replying!

Have you observed any of these settings? I'm interested, but I don't know where to look for them except for searching in google.
