Are PTCAS gpa lower than actual transcript gpa? I did an amateur ptcas calculation with 4 science A's and 2 science and statistics with b's and I had a gpa of 3.3? That can't be right? Right?

Oftentimes PTCAS GPA's are lower because they average repeated courses rather than using on the highest grade like most university transcripts.

Yeah, they are. The ptcas includes your retaken classes in its gpa calculations while likely your school let your new grades replace them. I was rejected from a pt school for not meeting their minimum gpa and I was like WHAAA so I looked it up. I was actually lucky to meet ANY schools GPA requirement because I got straight Fs my first year at college. My school transcript gives me a 3.4 and ptcas gave me a 3.01! How close was that?!!

Yeah, but I never failed or repeated courses. I had a 3.52 in my bachelors degree and I have A's and B's in my prereqs. Weird. I guess I'll have to see what is accurate when I actually apply this summer 🙁. Thanks for the advice!

For my application, the PTCAS GPA calculation is using the wrong number of hours (about 8 too many) while the number of quality points is spot on. Thus it's reporting that my GPA is lower than it should be.

It's possible to exactly calculate ptcas gpa exactly...so not sure why there's a question. You should know exactly where you stand. I'm not sure if yours seems reasonable without seeing the credit hours for each. And also were the As actually A minuses? Or B minuses? The B minuses killed mine. Lol.

As for the above poster, you should be able to see exactly where the hours are coming from in each category. Go through that carefully. In my case, I learned that even classes I failed and received no hours from my school still count as hours for the ptcas average. Could that be the case?

One thing to check is the value of an A that your university gives. PTCAS calculates an A+ (3 credits) as 12.00 points while some universities like mine, calculate an A+ as 12.99 points. I know I took a hit when my gpa was calculated via ptcas.

I don't have any F's on my transcript. I used the PTCAS coursework page and entered it all into an excel spreadsheet to calculate the total number of hours and quality points received. I've checked everything over multiple times. The numbers don't match up.

There may be an error, I caught some in mine and had to have it corrected. You can always call or email and see if you can get it straightened out.

I think we need to wait for the actual ptcas gpa to give an accurate gpa rather than (us) trying to do it. I think we will worry ourselves even more by doing a wrong amateur estimate of our ptcas gpa. Hope everyone is well and is getting prepared for July 1st!
