Is the PTCAS GPA and prereq GPA for each school computed after the app is submitted?

Once you submit your application, send your transcripts, and they are verified then PTCAS calculates all sorts of different GPAs for you (cumulative, prerequisite, science, math, etc). Unfortunately it won't tell you the GPA for each specific school you are applying to based on their prerequisites. I'm sure some people are calculating it on their own but I haven't figured that out yet 🙂

How do you know your PTCAS GPA? and prereq GPA for each school? Is this computed after the app is submitted?

Yes. Obviously schools aren't just gonna take your word for it on what your GPA was.

or are people just computing them on their own knowing the prereqs for each school??

Yes.

It's called Excel and 6th grade algebra.

Personally I don't know how to use the formulas in Excel (schools seem to think philosophy or yet another english class is a more valuable requirement than computer skills....:eyebrow:) so I thought I'd actually help ya out and show you how to do it yourself. So each letter grade has a corresponding numerical grade (A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3 etc.). You multiply this number by the number of credits the class is worth. Do this for each of your classes and add them all together. Then divide by the total number of credits you took. Obviously this is pretty tedious, but this is one way to do it!

It is indeed sad if you made it through high-school and college without learning the basics of Excel. It is a very useful skill to have, it would be worth your while to learn at least the basics. 🙂

I'm not sure how you would have made it through chemistry, biology and physics labs as a pre-PT without ever having to use spreadsheets though...

Anyway, sorry for the tangent.

My chem/bio/physics classes did teach us how to input data to make graphs but not how to use it to do math for us. Generally I've found that a calculator is sufficient. Listen I'm only trying to help out here, if you have any more questions Summer921 just let me know, I can try my best! Good luck with all your applications! And good luck with PT school DesertPT!
