I'm currently a junior and planned to graduate fall 2014, which means I would be applying for the 2015 cycle so I know this is early, but I want to be prepared.

My question is, is it too early to get volunteer hours? Over the summer I have the opportunity to get over 200 hours at a local hospital but I don't know how that would work when it comes time to apply on PTCAS.

Thanks🙂

It is NEVER too early to get volunteer hours. At the end of the day whether you get them now or later the only difference is the date on the paper. ( haha I know a little obvious) But yeah GO FOR IT!

It is never too early to gain experience, but for schools that require the hours to be verified, you might want to let the PT know way ahead of time that you will need them to verify those hours X months/years into the future. It'd be a good idea to maintain contact with the PT so that they don't forget you when it's time for verification.

I am in a similar situation...From what I understand, come next July when the application for that cycle opens, we are going to have to go back to volunteer hours done prior and have the PT's approve them. Hours are not rolled over from cycle to cycle. Be sure to get contact information for the PT who can confirm your hours, and tell them the situation. Also, I am making my own spreadsheet of hours completed and having the PT sign it. So, when the time comes to reach out to them I can show them the hours log that they signed off on a year and a half ago, and there will be no complications.
