Public vs. Private

Haven't seen a recent thread for this question and sorry if it is in the wrong place.

Is it worth paying the extra money to go to a private medical school not in the top 50 rankings than to go to a public, state medical school? Assuming I do equally as well on boards and grades, is going to a state school more limiting in residency placement than a private school with maybe a slightly better reputation?

Again sorry if this topic has already been covered, just want to know what the general opinion on this is.

Obviously there are a million other factors that you should look at. I don't think theres any inherent benefits of private schools over public.
