Publication worth updating now or better post-interview?

Hey everyone,

My first-author research paper was just accepted with revisions to a peer-reviewed journal (impact factor ~15). The abstract for this paper was also recently accepted for an oral presentation at a national conference. I'm wondering if it would be better to update schools now or wait until post-interview, which is usually recommended? Any insight is appreciated. @Goro @LizzyM @gonnif @Moko @Catalystik

Thanks

I agree with others that this would be best used for a post-interview update. However, if you haven't heard from a school by November, consider updating them then as a last ditch Hail Mary to get an interview (especially if your application does not have publications there already!). Either way, this is impressive. Great job

You already have evidence of research productivity on your Primary application. For schools where you're not getting nibbles by mid-fall, considering the general strength of most of your application, I would think it's your sparse nonmedical community service that's holding you back. So wait until your revisions are done and you can formally cite the paper with a PMID#, as well as give an update on added community service hours.

I do have publications on my primary application, but this would be my first author paper. I will wait to send updates after the interviews or mid-fall if I do not hear back.

@Catalystik - Yes, I am a bit worried about my lower non-clinical volunteering hours. I do have 1 interview invite currently, so hopefully, that is a good sign. Or it could be a case of them looking past this weak point. Either way I have been adding volunteering hours (~30 completed in the past 2 months).

Thanks for the advice!

I'm relieved to hear about your continuing to improve your application in the volunteer realm.
