A group of my friends want to go streaking before we graduate. I'm holding an acceptance to med school right now. What's the worst that could happen if we get caught?

if you actually get caught streaking you aren't fast enough to streak.

Entirely depends upon how much you work out.

Why would you even think of doing something that could, even remotely, ruin all the hard work you put in?

Off the top of my head, I would say the worst thing is that you get hit with a felony for indecent exposure. Worst worst case, you may also be put on the sexual predator list. I doubt that would happen but it may depending on who sees it and how badly the authorities want to set an example.

If you get caught and there is a child under the age of 18, that could be a serious crime. You could be labeled as a sex offender in some states. Be careful.

Nothing is illegal unless you get caught.

Also, where would you be streaking?

Through the dorms: OK
Through campus: That's iffy
Through a town: Nah

wow, SDN is seriously the least fun place on earth lately. ya'll need to chill out.

if you did get caught the cops would most likely make fun of you and make you feel stupid, especially if you're on campus. in most cases cops have other things to worry about such as drugs, murders, robberies, assaults, rapes, etc.

As others have said - likely nothing will happen. But in the worst case scenario you get arrested and slapped with a misdemeanor, felony or worse - a sexual offense.

All of these things would have to be reported to future residencies and licensing authorities and they are getting stricter and stricter about "forgetting" to report things or what they decide to do about certain offenses. (there was a recent thread from a PGY-1 who was removed from his residency and permanently banned from the match for not reporting a dismissed charge)

Is one silly prank really worth even a 1 in 1,000 chance that you won't be able to get a medical license in 7 years?

Want to know what happens to an MD without a medical license...search TurquoiseBlue on this forum.

That's not the way I remember it for a friend of mine in highschool. 😕

The OP asked what the worst case would be. If they asked what would mostly likely happen, then we would give a different answer.

Try it out and tell us what happens. Would it be worth not going to med school?

He'd probably still go to med school - it likely wouldn't make it to his background check in time to mess that up. But 4 years and $200,000 in debt later he may find he has no way to pay the loans back...

luckily, i did all of my streaking in my younger years with no repercussions. scaredy cats.

 You must have only dealt with some really nice police officers. The other 95% would like nothing more than to ruin your life with a bogus sex offender charge. Maybe it's just the cops in the burbs/college areas...

I'm talking about worst case scenario not what probably will happen. Trust me, I know what would most likely happen but I don't know if I would risk all of my hardwork for 5 min of streaking.

 i've never dealt with cops for this issue myself. i have seen cops handle arguably worse offenses with a "just get the hell out of here" in college settings more than once.

My point is that actually completing med school and being unable to attain a residency or medical license IS the worst case scenario. Thats way worse than being pulled out now before 4 years and all that debt.

We're gonna do it through campus, maybe run into a dorm or two. I'm male, but there's gonna be some girls in the group (one is pretty hot - also a small motivation to be involved). I'm in pretty good shape so the donut cops probably can't catch me, but this is in a city and there's no forest to hide out in.

I'm betting the worst that happens is probation possibly being labeled a sex offender. Do they really not let you go to med school if you're a sex offender? Maybe you just can't do peds?

If this was really such a bad thing, people wouldn't be doing it at football games and such.

You would not be able to get a medical license as a sex offender.

Most of the people doing it at football games don't have future careers that will have them be fingerprinted and background checked CONSTANTLY.

Come on. How many people get arrested for streaking on a college campus and get labeled as a sex offender? I really can't see a DA handing down those charges on a prospective med student - that would be some bad PR.

dude, the college po aren't going to ruin someone's life by going hardass on some seniors goofing off. my friend and i got caught red-handed in a 3AM prank hours before graduation, they just made us clean it up.

It would probably depend on the cops.

Your call. You asked the worst case scenario. We told you.

No one is saying its likely. But that is the worst case scenario. You are going to make the choice you want to. But keep in mind you are taking a risk.

No offense OP, but grow up. Streaking is for high schoolers. Now that you are going to become a physician, you will be held to much higher standards than your friends. Don't risk it. Would you be expelled before you even start? Not likely, but like someone mentioned earlier it won't be forgotten and you would likely be put on suspension before you even started. How would you answer this question during a suspension hearing or later on down the road during residency interviews, "So why did you decide to go streaking and get a misdemeanor even though you knew you were already accepted into medical school?"

There is no good answer to that except, "My friends wanted to do it and I wanted to have one last moment of being a complete idiot before I started." Not worth it. Don't be ******ed.

everyone is so srsly. the risk is minimal, and it's ok to have dumb fun in the last months of a chapter of your life.

the adamant "no" people are most likely people who should be arrested for being naked at any time.

Dumb fun. Whatever. Want to go streaking? Go for it. Just know that if you get caught it will label you as being a complete idiot. If I was at a game with my kid where some dumb***t thought it would be fun to run around with his junk flopping, and then I saw them when I was an attending, resident, etc... I would give them a real nice subjective evaluation => fail. 👎

If you want to have "dumb fun" invite your friends over for a game of strip poker. Then you can be an idiot in the privacy of your own home.

if i knew someone would evaluate another's performance based entirely on non-performance related factors, i too would give them a big fat fail.

Thanks guys. I now have the image of a young Bill Cosby naked :lame:.

Gross.

It's a simple principle here people: When in public, keep your junk in your pants.

I'm going with... Struck By Lightning

If you go to UVM, you can go streaking twice a year and get top-notch police protection. 👍

If you ARE labeled a sex offender the impact on your life is horrifying. You can't hold any sort of professional license. You can't live within such a wide range of schools, parks, and playgrounds thatt it's almpst impossible to find housing. You will liekly never get any kind of job ever again. There is no statute of limitations, no periodic reviw of your status, no way to get clear of it other than a gubernatorial pardon that you will never get. There are better than even odds you will literally be forced to either leave the country or live under a bridge.

Basically our sex offender laws were designed for people who rape children. Then we extended those rules to people who got caught flashing someone. It's a pretty terrible system.

People can be labeled as sex offenders for public urination, so its definitely a possibility for streaking. You're likely to get off easy, but the worst case scenario is pretty horrific. definitely not worth it.

That being said, if you do streak, don't let the cops find where you left your clothes (happened to someone I know), because then they've got you by the short and curlys

Streaking is a tradition at UVA, seen some people do it on the lawn at night - pretty funny.

Hey, those links include my school.

That is why I thought everyone responding that it was no big deal was actually crazy because in some places, it can be a huge deal (and this is in a liberal college town where being topless as a woman is not actually illegal...figure that).

Streaking is a bad idea. If you really want to do it, figure out what happens to streakers caught at your school, and then decide if it's worth it.

Just don't say no one warned ya.

Yup, the naked bike rides are a long-standing campus tradition, complete with police lining the route to protect the bike riders.

Kind of reminds me of what businesses and certain politicians say about climate change. "What's the worst thing that can happen if we emit greenhouses gases at this rate?" or "What's the last possible moment we can stop emitting gases?"

I say...just don't do it...play it safe...The "fun" (I really don't see how it's fun at all) you get out of streaking isn't really worth the consequences if you do get caught and slapped with the sex offender label.

That being said, if you're going to streak...do it on campus and where little kids can't see you. Colleges usually will go all-out to protect their students, even if their students were being complete idiots.
