Buying a dog from a breeder is one of the most inhumane things you can do. You are promoting over population of dogs and cats by keeping breeders in business. Everyone should rescue dogs from shelters. That is the only way the over population will be helped. Every time someone buys a dog from a breeder rather than rescuing a dog, you are condemning a sheltered dog to die. The only reason there are so many dogs in shelters is because people like you are ignorant and think sheltered dogs are "broken". That couldn't be further from the truth.

You are taking your anger out on the wrong people. It is the owners that let their pets end up in the shelter you should be lecturing.

It's both. There are really irresponsible breeders out there -- the people who are producing unpapered crossbred dogs of unknown health and pedigree (Morkipoos, Labraschnoodles, etc) are doing a disservice to dogs, particularly when they charge exorbitant fees; people who buy puppies (or take them for free from a guy off the side of the road) and then ditch them are also doing dogs a disservice.

I was an idiot to adopt a dog when I did. I did it not because I thought I could give a dog a good, stable home but because I was lonely. If I hadn't had a ton of help from family, I would have had to give up the dog years ago. I am lucky. But I also decided that I'd make it work, and I spend every bleeding spare penny I have on vet care and fancy-a** food for this allergic-a** dog.

Nope. Those dogs mostly come from people who bought from a breeder. 90% of people who adopt from shelters keep the dogs and there's only about 10% who bring the pets back. So who should I be lecturing?

That doesn't have anything to do with an individual's right to choose the source of their pet. What if I said it was irresponsible for people to have their own children because there are children in foster care? I am all for cracking down on irresponsible breeders and owners, but it shouldn't matter where responsible people get their pets. I would get a pet dog from a shelter, but I wouldn't look down upon those who don't. People who buy their pet from a breeder are not making the problem worse. They are just not helping to solve it.
