I understand people's worries about purchasing dental loupes used or second hand, but for right now that's what I'm looking to do.

My question is in regards to TTL vs. Flip Ups. I know both require certain measurements and that flip ups are regarded to be more "customizable" but what about TTL loupes? Is the placement of the actual magnification attached to the lenses actually measured and placed on (in regards to where the eyes line up with the magnification)? If the working distance would be fine for me for the TTL loupes what else would I have to worry about?

Also, when it comes to companies such as Q optics and surgitel, would they be willing to take back certain loupes to customize them again for someone else for a certain price?

Thank you.

How wide the telescopes are set apart is measured. (at least with the DFV loupes). Just look through a set of loupes that weren't customized to your eyes and they won't line up right. You might see a figure eight type image instead the the oval that you should be seeing if the scopes are lined up correctly. For that reason, and the working distance, I wouldn't buy used loupes.

Not only pupil distance, but angle of declination, working distance, vertical height, etc are all measured for TTL (at least for my DFV).

I am sure you can pay for them to be altered. But at what point are you going to say, "with the amount I am paying to alter an already used pair of loupes, should I just make the jump and purchase my own pair?"

Loupes are one thing, IMO, that you should not try and be frugal with. A bad pair of loupes might be worse than no loupes at all....
