Has anyone received an interview invite from Purdue this year?

nope, I am still waiting.

I called Stevens, she said it would be sent out by the end of Jan/first few days of Feb.

Did you ask if rejection letters are sent out at the same time?

no, I didn't ask about rejection letters. I assume they will be sent out at the same time since Purdue is pretty late in this game, and they have only one week to interview all candidates, don't you think?

What do you mean they only have one week to interview all candidates?

That one week is at the end of February. Though, the first time you read that post it seems like it meant one week starting immediately, huh?

I got an e-mail for an interview on Monday the 22nd. Too bad I am a Hoosier at heart and cannot see myself at that campus, so I am declining. So great news for one of you out there.

Also Hoosiers👍 are gonna beat Purdue👎 66-60 this Thursday.

Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers.

Are all of the invites being sent via e-mail (or already been sent)? Will rejections be sent via snail mail?

I also got an interview on Feb. 26th! I haven't decided whether or not I'm going... I'm from California, and it's going to be my 6th interview. I already got in somewhere.. but Purdue is such a great school... Also, I heard Purdue favors in-state residents.. so I don't know if it's worth the time, money and missing more class. Anyone have an opinion?

invitation by mail or email?

I got an e-mail courtesy notice for the Feb. 26th and that the mail form of details would be coming.

Does anyone know the time frame specifics of the interview? Is it in the morning/afternoon?

Hello everyone

Is this week the only time frame Purdue sends out interview invitations?
If after this week you did not receive an invitation, is the chances of getting an interview close to none?

I'm pretty worried.🙁

I have an interview on Feb 22 at 9:45. I got an e-mail from Stevens this afternoon saying my letter was mailed yesterday, but there was a change in the time from 9:00 to 9:45. I live 10mi outside of West Lafayette and my letter wasn't in my mailbox yet today. Good Luck everyone!

Why would you apply if you knew you couldn't see yourself there? Sounds like a big waste of time and $50.

Also nice job on that prediction.

haha agreed. Considering there are only 2 pharm schools in indiana to chose from Butler (primarily 0-6 so good luck getting in) and Purdue.

I tried to call Ms. Stevens today. She was not there, and the secretary picked up the phone. I don't think the answers were clear and helpful, but for me and those waiting, she said they sent out mails today and tomorrow. What can I say? Hopefully they are not rejection letters, huh?

When I called I found the secretary to be extremely rude and unhelpful. With my experience at other schools, the admissions office has been willing to go above and beyond to do anything necessary to make you happy as an applicant. Completely turned me off of the school, and I have no desire to go there now whatsoever.

im kind of nervous...does anyone know what kind of questions they would ask us?

purdue isn't tooooo friendly, but for rude......try UNC, they don't even answer the phone......ever! you have to email them, and they do not reply either. Florida was rude to me last week.

I just got my official interview letter in the mail....this might be a weird question and totally off topic....but does anyone else thinks it smells really good?😛

Seems like just about everyone says this, I experienced it too and played a minor role in me not choosing to go there.

Also if anyone has any specific questions about the interview process, video recording part, essay, etc post it here. I was waitlisted at purdue 2 years ago, ultimately accepted but went elsewhere.

hey i was wondering what kind of questions they ask? whats the difference between the interview and the recording part? and how is the essay...what kind of essay do we have to write about?

I would check the interview feedback part of the forum for specific questions, but really it will vary based on who interviews you. The interview is very typical of what you will experience at other schools just the faculty member trying to see how you think on the spot and your interpersonal skills. If you get the the interview phase of the admission process they pretty much are saying you are qualified EC and gpa wise and those things don't play much of a role after that, it just used to narrow down 1500 applicants to 265 they interview or whatever number it is this year. Having a good interview is a must at Purdue imo, they will say its the top 160 qualified overall but even if you have a 4.0 and ECs out to wazoo you probably won't get accepted with a poor interview. The video recording part doesn't play much of a role as far as acceptance/decline goes but is mainly for people with English as a second language or not very articulate in general. Most likely they won't even watch that portion unless its noted during the interview that the faculty member thought there might be some issues and then they will use it.

For the video recording part you just read a drug monograph off a labtop while a webcam records you, pretty much like the commercials you see on TV. Then you click next and you have to answer a generic question not related to pharmacy like whats your favorite book and why, or whats your favorite television show and why. Essay was similar to the second part of the video recording where you just answer a generic question not related to pharmacy in essay form.

Thank you for your precise advices, I greatly appreciate it. I have an interview there on the 26th and yes English is my second language. I have been here 15 years but I'm still afraid of the interview. I am not sure if they will be requiring me to do the video recording part but this is good to be prepared for. I want to do well on the interview and be fully prepared. I just want to ask you when they interviewed you did they already read your application ahead of time? I had another interview at a different school recently and seemed like they didn't know anything about me. Thanks..

Everyone has to do the recording portion, but it won't be looked at in many cases unless you fall into the two cases i mentioned above. However, you won't know it they look at it or not, so it's best to be prepared to do well on it. For the interview part, I do highly recommend you look at your pharmcas information and supplemental app information as they will have it in front of them(the interviewers) and will derive most of their questions based on what you wrote/did/performed etc.

Thank you Prepharm1214, I had been studying my PharmCAS app and my supplemental app very precisely. I am from out of state though, and when I saw the stats on their websites about the # of out of state students they accept I felt kind of sad. I think for the 2008 incoming class only 9% were out of state students. I'm not sure how many got invited to the interview though so I can't really make out the ratio. Did you fly into Indianapolis, IN? I looked on maps.google.com and I think the drive from Indianapolis to Purdue is 60miles. BTW. How was your interview went? Was it relaxed or was it intense and stressful?

Thank you and have a beautiful day.

Indianapolis to Purdue is a long drive about an hour and 15 mins, but it's closest airport so that's about your only option as an out of stater.

The OOS percentages do look pretty daunting but getting to the interview stage is pretty key, they accept well more then half of the people they interview so I would just focus on that. My interview there in particular felt more stressful then I experienced at other schools based on the questions that they asked me and many follow up questions based on how I replied to the previous question(s). But this will vary greatly based on who your interviewer is, there are around 25 different people interviewing applicants so their personality plays a large role, and unfortunately some interviewers are notoriously easier then others.

Has anyone used the Lafayette Limo that is advertised in the letter? Is this the most convenient way to go from the airport to Purdue?

And, which stop is this closer to for the pharmacy school: Purdue Memorial Union? Or Follett's Purdue West?

I've never heard of the Lafayette Limo, but the Union is much closer to the pharmacy building.

I think I'm going to use Lafayette Limo as well. I interview on the 26th coming from California.

I checked it out, FYI, getting a taxi is crazy expensive.

It's better to take star of america from the airport instead of lafayette limo. It's so much cheaper, almost by half the price lafaytte limo is offering.

Hello everyone, I am also coming to the interview on the 26th. Which hotel are you staying at? I'm thinking of taking the shuttle or Star of America like Sleekdes said. BTW how do i get a hold of "Star of America"? In the letter Purdue sent me didn't include that Star of America at all. Thanks very much!

I think I'm staying at Campus Inn.. it's the cheapest one I could find. Hmm, Star of America is wayy cheaper.. I will probably use that.. Maybe it's like Lafayette Limo.. you just wait for it outside of the baggage claim

You just go to land transportation area. Go straight after you exit the baggage claim area. When you have reached the land transportation area, there will be a booth where star of america is selling the tickets. You can purchase the tickets there or online and just bring along the receipt. Then, you wait till the mini bus arrives. it will be easy to spot cos there's be a "star of america" label on the minibus.

THanks a lot everyone for the hotel and Star of America Info. That would help me from getting lost at IND. Wish everyone luck and see you there at the interview. 🙂

Interview done; now the waiting begins again. Good luck to those of you still to go! :luck:

hey jfm5958,
hope the interview went well for you!
im really nervous for the interview...any tips? haha
and any kind of questions to watch out for?! did they make you feel calm or was it stressful?

The interview wasn't bad at all. There is a student panel before the interview where 2 current PharmD students talk with ~4 interviewees for about 1/2 hour just answering questions about Purdue and pharmacy in general. That made me feel a lot less nervous! My interviewers were really nice and didn't ask anything other than the usual questions. The interview was closed file so be prepared to answer: tell me about yourself, what are you involved in, how have you explored pharmacy. Just the general questions really since they aren't going to have that info in front of them. Try not to stress too much about it and Good Luck! :luck:

thanks dude! good luck to you and everyone! =)

Hello everyone, I want to know exactly how long the interview will take? My flight is at 6pm. I'm afraid i may not have enough time to get back to the airport. 🙁

Call and ask if you can bump your interview up at an earlier time, explain you are coming out of town and your schedule/flight is at 6pm. They may have some earlier slots open.

What time is your interview MissPharmer? Mine was at 9:45 (student panel at 8:15) and I was done at 11.
