What are my chances in getting an invite to Purdue University if I am out of state? My stats are good. I have a 3.75 GPA, 4.0 in math, 3.92 in inorganic chemistry, four strong LORS (one from a pharmacist), and will be graduating with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. Anyone get accepted from out of state with similar or better stats?

Purdue doesn't consider the PCAT.

OP, you have very solid stats, and would be competitive as an applicant.

I'd say your chances are reasonable. Take in to account their average accepted gpa last year was 3.8, nearly all of their out of state people probably had 4.0's since they have a high preference for people who do their pre-pharm at Purdue. I cannot further assess your chances since you only posted your gpa, but Purdue really does consider everything so you will need strong ECs, Recomendations, etc.

Well not this year no one has...they are not rolling admissions and the way their process works is they will wait until the deadline (Dec 3rdish if I remember correctly) then start reviewing everyone at the same time. Same with interviews...they interview everyone during a 1 week timespan. So yes every year people get out of state interview invites, but none have been handed out this year yet.

What I meant to say is has anyone from this pre-pharmacy forum who is an out of state applicant receive an interview for the 2008 admission cycle (last year)? I tried searching the forums but could not find anything useful.

According to the PSAR, the 2007 entering class (most recent data) had 35% of their students out of state which is pretty good odds considering it's a public university. With your high numbers, I wouldn't worry too much about getting an interview. 👍

Have you read the entire thread?? He is below their average accepted gpa from last year, why would this be a joke. Yes his numbers are good by traditional standards but not necessarily at Purdue.

OP, I just watched Gattaca. It was a good movie (I'm assuming that's what your username is based on). Looking at this thread actually made me want to watch the movie today. I know that's irrelevant.

But your stats seem pretty good. Don't understand why a college wouldn't accept you (unless it heavily favors instate people).

I own the movie. Although the movie is somewhat old, it is still a great movie to watch every now and then. Anyways, Purdue seems to favor in-state applicants. I want to attend Purdue because I really like their residency programs. My PCAT is not very competitive and I know Purdue does not look at this factor when making a decision. I am hoping the Admission Committee looks favorably at upper division science courses such as P. chem I and II, genetics, and molecular biology because I have performed well in all of these courses.

Make sure you have volunteer work and leadership experience - don't put "none" or "NA" for any part of the application. Purdue is looking for more than just the highest GPAs - they seem to be very serious about having well-rounded applicants.

Yep, I was accepted out of state last year to Purdue. My GPA was higher than yours, but honestly I can't say much more about why they picked me or not.

I had only completed my first 3 semesters of college by the time my interview rolled around. So my spring semester classes (finishing pre-reqs) were essentially 'hidden' as I found out my application status by the time the spring semester grades were released. The only way the spring semester classes can hurt you is if you get more than the allowed 3 C's total (or >2 in a single semester), in which case they would revoke your acceptance should you be admitted.

Strengths:
-Long standing program
-High ranked
-Lots of research opportunities
-Top notch professors

Weaknesses:
-Weather
-Large class size (depends on the student)
-Not tons of social activities in West Lafayette

Don't let the 35% out-of-state fool you. They consider out-of-state students that did their pre-pharm at Purdue as out of state for their statistics even though they are favored in the admissions process over someone who is entirely out of state.

it's in a small college town one hour away from Indianapolis.
you may need to drive really far for internship opportunities considering all the drugs stores around the college area probably don't have any openings, and no major big hospitals in that area.
you may also need to relocate during P4 year for APPE rotations, like 1 hr away to Indianapolis.

out of state for Purdue is hard.
why not Ohio State, they love diversity since u will have a bachelor degree.
your stats are pretty impressive for OSU
