😕 anyone have a take on whether to take a purse to the medical school interview? what is the appropriate attire for females?

Only if it's couture 😀 (Gucci, Louis Vuitton...take your pick!)

Really though, since you're probably wearing a suit (which is the suggested attire for females as well), a purse won't match as well as a small leather portfolio/briefcase thing -- but it doesn't really matter either way. In my opinion, you're not going to need your wallet, since they'll feed you for lunch, nor your cell phone, since you really wouldn't want to risk it ringing during your interview, nor your makeup because you're going to look professional, not all glammed up and whatnot. If anything, you'll only need your Driver's License/ID to prove that you are whom you say you are.

As for the suit, granted that you want to stand out as an individual, it's been recommended to wear the standard: black, gray/dark gray, navy. (And you don't need an expensive one either! Buy something that fits you and your budget.) Keep the pieces of flair to a minimum in both size and amount. But hey, if you really want to leave your bling and ice on, you go right ahead, playa.

And of course, the interview feedback section in SDN is quite the resource as well! Good luck!

I agree with the budget friendly dark suit. In addition, keep your jewelry simple and conservative. One pair of earrings regardless of the number of holes you have, a watch or bracelet is acceptable. One ring(set) per hand (including wedding ring). Don't forget to smile and be courteous to EVERYONE you meet from the time you step out of your car at your interview site. 😎 That should have you ready in the attire department. I personally did not carry a purse to my interview. I had a small leather bound notebook to make notes about each interview and interviewer so I would know what to say in my thank you notes to help them remember me. It was cold during my interview, so a placed my keys in my coat pocket

i had a purse with me, as well as my portfolio thingy. it all depends on what you want to carry.

one thing i noticed: girls with nice suits but tacky or cheap looking shoes. it ruins the whole look when you have a professional black suit and some ugly plastic-y shoes or slutty 3" heels. get some comfortable shoes that are conservative but not matronly. i found some super nice shoes at nordstrom rack for cheap.
