...I don't mean this meanly, but applying with below-average statistics to top-tier schools two months after other applicants is not really a recipe for success. Also, Penn and WashU tend to love bench research. I hope you get in somewhere, but I strongly recommend adding additional schools, especially some in-state schools from wherever you reside.

Agreed. In addition to how random the application process is, you've basically applied to the cream of the crop and your stats, while decent, are significantly below the averages for those schools. You would be well-served to apply to some state schools or less ambitious institutions.

If another premed says there 34+ MCAT is low im gonna spaz 😕
OP's score is very low for every one of those schools. It'd be okay coupled with a 3.8+ and some outstanding ECs AND an early application.

I'd download the spreadsheet and apply to some mid-tiers with GPA~3.6 and MCAT~33...if your AMCAS was just verified you're not losing that much time. You still have a shot.

Why not add some schools ASAP?

Thank you guys for your input.

I knew I'm significantly below average for those schools but those schools were the ones that I really wanted to go to.. XD

Well, some of you mentioned that I could add some school at this point and it won't be setting me back too much.. but I'm afraid that it might and even render the VERY low chance of getting into those school to zero..

Is it really okay to risk putting my app in the very end by adding some schools asap?

Adding other schools doesn't reduce your chances at the ones you've already listed since they are not processed simultaneously. It's done on an individual school basis, so if anything, you're only boosting your chances of getting into med school by giving yourself more options.

Your application will not go to the end of the line at AMCAS if you add more schools now. You will keep the same spot as you await verification of the transcripts. I added more schools in three waves and it did not delay my expected time of completion of the verification process. As soon as verification is complete, your entire application will be released to all the schools on your list immediately.

Applying to 5 schools is risky...applying to 5 top tier research schools? That's...really risky, even people with 4.0/40 mcat and publications would be nervous doing that.

I'd definitely try to find some more mid tier schools that you'd still enjoy going to.

I know I have low GPA and low MCAT and applied late..

Well you are insane for applying to just those schools and also insane for claiming a low MCAT.

Heh, "low MCAT" is somewhat relative to what school you're applying to. You could almost make the argument that 34 is low for WashU. What's their average this year? A 37?

ohhh you guys are saying that I should add some more schools if the app is not verified yet?

It was verified and the processing was complete shortly after I submitted the application. My secondaries are complete as well.

(I'm saying I have low MCAT compared to the median MCAT marks for those schools! XD)

You can add schools after your application is verified.

Yes, I can add more schools but once the app is already verified, wouldn't adding more schools put me far back in the line?

I know you guys have been telling me it won't put me back in the line. But I'm assuming that is when the app is not verified

What line? You're already verified. If you add schools, your verified AMCAS will be sent to those schools. You don't have to be re-verified every time you add a school. Just do it.

Adding more schools will never put you farther back in line (verified OR unverified). At least that is what I've been told by AMCAS and SDN multiple times. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi guys,

I've just contacted AMCAS just to be sure and for future reference.

They told me that once the application is verfied, adding more schools won't affect your application status.

Adding more schools just means that more schools can now access my already verified application.

Thanks for your inputs! 🙂

p.s: any suggestions on good mid-tier schools that fits my stats? 🙂

Okay I've applied to more schools just now.

Isn't it too late though? It's October already gosh..

Here is the list:

-Case Western
-Boston U
-U Southern California
-UCLA
-Gerougetown

any chances? Thank you!

Might as well tack on GWU and Tufts.

Sorry, but what you are doing is no way to come up with a list of schools to apply to...

At this very late point in time, and with your stats, you seriously need to add some lower tier schools (less famous?) if you hope to have any interviews, much less any acceptances...

I may have missed it, but do you have an in-state med school you can apply to?
