hello there

I just extended the date of my Step II CK exam, and i'm wondering if it was a mistake. I am doing kaplan Qbank and i've only been studying for like 5-7 days, and my overall Qbank average is 75%. I switched my exam date because I had two blocks (total of 75 questions) where my average was a 68% which SCARED me! So i jumped ship and changed things...i'm also only using pretty much First Aid and tried to do a bit of Crush, and i just felt like I couldn't be ready for my test date. However, like i mentioned above, i'm wondering if I should've just stuck with my original test date and gotten this darn thing over with! My question then is how well do you guys think the Qbank correlated with your Step II CK performance and what about the ideaof using just the first aid and crush? (i'm sure this question has been asked before, but i couldn't find it)
thanks!

I think Qbank for step 2 is a little weak. I would whole-heartedly recommend usmleworld over Qbank.

If you're not sure you're ready, try the CCSSA online. It's by far the closest you'll get to see to seeing the real test. You get a score complete with mean and SDs. That correlated decently with my score.

I didn't use anything like First Aid or Crush. I would recommend doing questions instead. Lots of questions.

Good Luck.

hello, thanks for the input. i have not heard of usmleworld, how do i get it? also, what is ccssa? i guess i'll google the ccssa.

so you just did questions? overall, doing questions works better for me too, but i am just a little freaked out for step II and i don't want anything to go wrong!! (well, neither does anyone else, hehe).

thanks again

just weighing in from someone who got their score report today...240...so I'm very happy....

I used step 2 secrets, boards and wards, and Qbook...not qbank...oh and some mksap

This will cover everything you need...boards and wards is kind hard to read so I read it out loud while working out...made it easier to digest....

You know a lot more than you think you do....trust me...just take the test

usmleworld.com is the site. It's cheaper than Qbank and the questions are much better.

CCSSA you find at nbme.org under self-assesment. I think it's $45 for a 4 hour test. It's very much like the real test.

The review books are a matter of temperatment. I can't stand reading that format. I understand why some people use them to leaf through but you really should know most of the stuff in there as a senior medical student. I like questions, questions, questions. I honestly think that's the best way to go.

The only thing I did "right" was do well during third year - if you've done that, studying for the step is a true 'review'. Good luck.

another correlation question, mainly to make me feel better...

i have been basically doing my clinicals, with minimal step 2 prep (practice questions now and then, and browsing through pathophys for boards and wards). so, i took NBME self-assessment part 1 to see where i stood, and got a 450. basically, i took that to mean that my schooling so far has got me to a point where i can comfortably pass, and i simply have to refine my knowledge and test taking skills to crush this stupid test and make up for my crap step 1.

does that sound reasonable? 450 is -.5 SD off the mean, that is around 200 or 205, right? what kind of NBME were you 220+ folks getting early on? any correlation input, prep advice or anything would help me now. i have 8 weeks or so til test time, but only a couple weeks now, and one week before the exam are rotation free time, for dedicated step 2 study.

thanks for the help...i am just a nervous nellie, especially since i really need to crush it.
