Can some one explain to me why this answer choice is the absolute value of |x| and not just regular x. I under stand the limits but not x V.S. |x| . And if it were |x| why doesn't it look like something similar to the second image provided?

And sorry the images are small Idk how to upload larger images

For the second image, that's for y = |x|, but here it's just asking for the value of absolute value of y, not a y = |x| equation. Best way to do these problems if your confused on the test is to just plug in x values, get the corresponding y value, and see if it fits the answers.
 
i can tell you why your choice was wrong since its lower limit was 4 but in reality its -4

the x vs IxI part, the green V is y = Ix+2I-1 and the blue V is IxI. if it wasn't not IxI it would not be symmetrical and would be a diagonal.
