Because there are 4 sides that have length of 6 and one side (hypotenuse) that length is 6sqrt2

I think, you think the answer should be 30+6sqrt2 because you are adding one more length from the square.. the right vertical side shouldn't be counted.

The triangle is a 45 45 90 or isosceles There sides are always in the proportion of x: x: xsqr2. Another good triangle to know is a 30 60 90 triangle that is 30 degree opposite side is x 60 opposite side is x sqr3 and 90 is 2x! Hope this helps. .
 
I got it. Its talking about the perimeter so you only look for the lengths around the object not inside. Thanks.
