Since everyone isnt doing so well on QR, I just wanted to make a poll (dunno how to make a graphed one) of why people arent following upto their own expectations.

Question Poll: I did badly (badly meaning sub 19)because...

1) Did not prepare for QR at all since it seems least imp

2) I hate Math in general (never my game)

3) I was only given 45 minutes to solve things in my brain, without using a calculator ( I NEED MORE TIME )

4) I am good at Math, but the questions were unfair

5) Other reasons 😀

I studied about 3X as hard for the QR section the second time I took the DAT and only improved one measly damn stinkin point. I went up from a 14 to a 15. My lowest score. Iv always been good at math but the time factor plus the "its the last section on this stupid test and im tired as HELL" syndrome definately screwd me over.

I've always struggled with math. I think the toughest part for me is that I haven't done math since highschool, except for calc...

Time is def a major factor, and I feel that the math section is sooo general - you can have questions on trig and on random probability.....there is nothing to directly focus on....

Like for organic, you know to study all the reactions and be able to identify them - but math is too general too do this--

For now, I am just doing crack the dat math to help with timing and going over every question to see if there is a faster/different way of solving it.

I have improved - slightly- only by two points in a week-

Not enough time.

I think time is the main problem with this section. You barely have time to think about the questions. After you read the question you have to get straight to calculations otherwise you wont finish. 45 minutes for 40 questions with no calculator. You have a little bit more than a minute per question, thats ridiculous. When will you ever have to calculate anything this complicated by hand that fast? Never. I really don't see the point in making this section so short time wise. And this is not in anyway indicative of anyone's potential skills as a dentist. All of the other sections are a little more reasonable.

i am not sure about what exactly a dentist needs to learn, but i am guessing quick head calculations are needed for something? (like dosage of how much pain killer ur supposed to take lol)

Well does anyone know how much QR correlates with performance in dental school?

If i could recreate the exam I'd just make it an obstacle course. Maybe add some science questions at rest stations. Might be more fun that way.

no idea about the correlation-- i doubt it is even one of those correlations that has a meaning though. one of those things where you can find two trends but they aren't necessarily related.

why do we need to know 2s fills before 2p? why do we need to know that plants have no centrioles? or what allopatric speciation is? or why you can't give someone with blood type B .. A blood? (kidding bout the last one..might come in handy...)

I guess they make it difficult to weed out people who shouldn't take the test.... same reason they give us those stupid dry erase boards.

Dah well. I guess we all do what we're told. 🙄

The QR section has a little bit more than than quick head calculations. Wouldn't you agree?

i agree!! they should just do away with the QR and put in a soap carving section like in the Canadian DAT...now THAT is something actually applicable

do you know how hard that section is?
i am taking the canadian dat this november but carving isnt fun (especially when the soap breaks in ur hand when u were about to be finished)

So is everyone saying the math in QR is not as mental math-y as we all think it is? Kaplan made it sound like it was all easy numbers to work with and you always get even answers. Should we brush up on our intense mental math skills?

thing is, do u guys finish the kaplan/achiever/topscore (whatever QR test there are) within the 45 minutes?

I just can't see how harder the test can get (i mean we arent using calculators either) compared to all the sources out there

hmm...i just heard from one of my cousins who took it a couple of months ago...

she received 28 in QR...-___-
