I was working on the practise DAT posted by the ada and these 2 questions in QR totally stumped me.

28. Which of the following is the length of the line segment BC, if AB = 14, AD = 5, and angle BAD = 30°? No idea how to approach this one.
A. 7
B. 9
C. 7root3
D. root171
E. root221

There is a picture you need for this one but I dont know how to post it so here is the link to the practise test:

26. Find the average of the following list of three weights: 3 lb. 2oz., 4 lb. 6 oz., and 9 lb. 10 oz.
For this one i know 1lb=16oz but i just wasnt getting one of the answers they listed

B. 5lb.61/3oz. C. 5 lb. 11 1/3 oz. D. 5 lb. 39 1/3 oz. E. 8lb.9oz.

Thanks in advance!

This question is funny because they expect you to assume that D is midpoint, without explicitly stating. It also assumed that BCA is a right angle. You should not get something so ambiguous on the real DAT. If we considered these assumptions, the question becomes a lot easier.

Sin30 = BC/14
0.5 = BC/14
BC = 7

3 lbs 2oz = 3X16+2 = 50 oz
4 lbs 6oz = 4X16+6 = 70 oz
9 lbs 10oz = 9X16+10 = 154 oz

Total weight in oz = 274 oz
Average weight in oz = 91.33 oz
average weight in lbs= 91.33/16 = 5 lbs 11 1/3 oz

The way I do it is you take 91.33/16 = 5.708 lbs, so it's 5 lbs, with 0.708 lbs remaining
0.708 lbs X 16 oz/lbs = 11.333 oz = 11 1/3 oz

Hope that helps.
