I took the DAT this morning. I'm trying to get in after my Junior year, I currently have a 3.87 cum and a 3.79 sci with all but physics and biochem completed. I got smoked today.
QR 12
BIO 16
GC 17
OC 17
PAT 19
RC 23
TS 16
AA 17

I'm thinking I'm hosed for this cycle which bums me out because I really think that outside of my crappy scores I have an outstanding application. Maybe I'll be lucky and be someone who gets in and brings down the DAT average 🙂.

Btw, for those still to take. It was time that smoked me on the math. The questions weren't so bad, it just required an adjustment in strategy that i did not make. The point of the section in my opinion post test is to make estimated guesses at the answers and not to try to solve them. The time here is very limited, or at least it was for my exam, I had 15 minutes left after the sciences, and 8 or so after the Pat, I only had about 4 minutes left after the reading.

Bummer on the QR, at least you know what to expect next time though.

How long did you study? What materials did you use?

I studied off and on for about 2 months, I spent most of my time on bio because I knew that it was my weakest area. I spent almost zero time on math, but I don't think that was necessarily my problem-it wasn't not knowing how to do the problems so much as taking to long to do them.....It is a bummer. On the other stuff I used destroyer, barrons for the pat stuff (practice test is garbage btw, as well as wrong answers throughout the text), and princetons mcat for a bio overview. Destroyer was probably my best asset-honestly, it would have helped if I had really nailed down the way questions were asked in destroyer...very similar.

I actually just got home from taking the exam tonight. Not good. My scores look identical to yours, with QR = 14 and RC=19. Really upset. Im thinking Ill let schools know Im taking it again in Jan, so they might sneek me an interview.

Is a 19 in RC bad?? That's what I got... I didn't know it was considered a bad score for RC

it's a pretty sick feeling. I suppose I'll call up schools today and tell them that i'm going to retake as well.

Overall was the test more difficult than you guys expected or do just feel that you didn't prepare properly? My test is coming up on the 10/20 and seeing all these low QR scores is freaking me out.

For me-I thought it was mixed.
Harder than expected...
organic
time on qr, but not really difficulty I had almost all word problems.
About what I expected
gen chem
biology
pat (although angle rankings were a little comical, I realized about half way through them that I could actually count the pixels in between the lines...next time i'll use that the whole way through)
Easier than I expected
RC...I was only unsure about 2 of my questions...I was way relaxed during this section.

it amazes me when i see such high gpas and low dat scores. keep it up though u will get it next time.

Me too. I've been watching this cycle and it's completely different from last. I still think GPA inflation is going to continue to skyrocket with all the CC's popping up everywhere.

QR was my lowest as well sadly 🙁 but I didn't study for it, so I think if you put in the time it should be completely doable. It's a big timing issue cause all the problems are pretty basic. You just need to be able to work them fast fast fast

I think they are two different things. One of the reasons that I have such a high gpa is that I am very good at knowing what a teacher will put on a test...some students can not differentiate. Also, I'm a great reader so given limited information I can know most of it quickly and easily. The DAT is different. It requires a broad base knowledge. Just an opinion. But overall, I just screwed up the qr badly...and I haven't had a break from classes in two years. I think after a few months to study that i'll come back and smoke the DAT in jan.
