i've been out of medicine for 9 years d/t alcoholism. my medical license was recently reinstated. i've successfully completed 1 year of internal medicine training and 2 years of psychiatry training, scored well on USMLE step 1 and 2 and have completed step 3, all on my first attempts. i know it's going to be hard to get back into residency. since i've not touched a patient in 9 years, i plan to get current US clinical experience. my question: does it matter which hospital/drs office i go to to get the experience? is just getting the experience important or should i try to get the best experience possible (e.g, local average physician vs large academic center)? if i get experience from a large academic center, will i be MUCH more competitive to get a residency spot for 2024 than if i didn't?
