Hello everyone. I have recently been offered an interview by the University of Queensland. It is scheduled for Sunday evening, and will be by phone as I'm an international (Canadian) applicant. In this case, would any of you happen to have any specific or general advice for me regarding this upcoming UQ interview of mine? Thank you for your time and generosity.

Sorry no help to offer here, besides be yourself. I have a couple questions since I also applied to UQ and am Canadian. What is your GPA? MCAT score? When did you apply? I applied about 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything (I know it's early). I'm just wondering the timeframe and how it all works.

GOOD LUCK!

Hi,
I'm a final year UQ student. I did my interview in person but I'm guessing they will ask similar stuff. There will be a "explain a scientific conept to a lay person" question - mine was surface tension. I also got bailed up on whether I agreed with conscription of doctors into the army. I also then got to choose an ethical dilemma to discuss from a list of about 4 - I chose Euthenasia. There was a bit of general chat as well about what I'd done before Med and what I thought I'd go into at the end. On the whole they were very nice and it really wasnt that scary. From what I can gether they're really more interested in your communication skills than anything. Supposedly they're also trying to weed out the unstable ones among us but... well it's not a foolproof system. 🙂

I just had mine about a month ago and am waiting to hear back...but what I can tell you is the that the interview is pretty nice.

I've had two now (one back in October '06...unfortunately I didn't get in that round) and in both interviews they asked the following questions, pretty much in this order too (if I remember correctly)

1 - What part of your education made you want to become a doctor?
2 - Why do you want to study at the university of Queensland?
3 - What do you like to do in your spare time and elaborate on 'blank' extracurricular activity?
4 - What do you feel will be the major health issues that you will face when you are practising?
5 - will you be ok being away from home for this long, and do you have any kind of support network while in Aus? (eg, family, friends etc.)

That's all I remember, and I know at the end they get you to ask you some questions too (if you're interested) As an international applicant, the doctor interviewing me had great interest in the fact that I had travelled around through Asia for the last 6 months...so if you've done anything like that or travelled to a different part of the world, mention it as they were REALLY stressing the international component.

Hope this helps, and good luck!
