I'm an IMG looking to take part in the match next year.

Last year I was in the US doing rotations and a friend of mine told me the need to make AAMC ID's for LORs. I went to the AAMC website to check it out and made an account (only requires your name and email address). However, it also gives you an AAMC ID...its listed under 'my account' when you sign in.

My question is I recently found out that ECFMG gives you an ERAS token which is how you get your AAMC ID as an IMG. And that is the AAMC ID you use.

Am I screwed? I hope this isn't viewed as irregular behavior - having two AAMC IDs (not like I even know what to do with the first one lol)...I haven't used the one I made thru the AAMC account for LOR's or anything yet, but at the same time I am not sure how to deactivate that account or free myself from that ID.

Anyone got any helpful ideas? Hopefully this isnt a big deal.

Thanks in advance!

I didn't know you could just sign up for an AAMC ID. In any case, it's not a problem. You'll get your token from ECFMG. Then, you'll go to the MyERAS site to register. When there, they will ask you for your token, and also for an AAMC ID if you have one. if you do, that's the one that will be used. If not, one gets created for you. You can see all of that here, on the MyERAS first registration page -- you'll see the two spots for the token and the AAMC ID right at the top.

If you're not certain whether you have one or not, you can check here.

Yup, I guess it wont be a problem. I guess if anything its a pro because I can get LOR's made earlier and uploaded as soon July comes around since I already have the ID and its not going to change.

Thanks for your help, appreciate it!
