Question about anesthesia

I am an incoming freshman with an undecided major.
I have a question about anesthesia.
I have read online that providers of anesthesia are more likely to die at a younger age and have fertility issues because of the constant exposure to nitrous oxide, ect.
How do providers protect themselves, and how well does it actually work?
I would love for any input on this!
