Question about application process

Okay, So I am re-taking the MCAT on August 14th, adn I am afraid that by the time I get my new scores back I will be a late applicant and not have a great chance of getting into a school. My GPA is 3.7, and I am hoping to get a 30 htis time around. Would i be better off submitting my appliaction with my old score and then just submitting an updated score later, or shoudl I just wait. What if schools reject me from their secondaries becuz my first score was just a 25??? Would it end up being disadvantageous for me to apply without my new score in that case??? ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks

First, if you indicate on your AMCAS that you're retaking, they should (in theory) wait for your new scores before they reject you. This isn't to say they definitely will, but they should.

Most schools do not screen pre-secondary so you shouldn't have many cases where you don't get a secondary based on your numbers.

Finally, it's really your decision whether you apply this cycle or next. If you're confident your MCAT will be high enough, then you could apply, but know that by the time your scores arrive it'll be late in the cycle. If you're worried about rejection, your best bet may be to simply try your luck next cycle after you know your scores and can apply early.

but basically i will be ahead of everyone else if i apply now right because by the time I get my mcat score back in september my application will have been verified so i can just submit my new mcat score and get secondaries hopefully???

Once you submit your application and get it verified, you'll begin getting secondaries right away. They don't wait for your scores unless they screen (and most don't screen). So submit now, and by the time you get your scores back you should have a lot of your secondaries already done.

What did you do wrong during your last studying that you're not doing this time? Most people that retake do worse, so how do you plan to raise your score 5 points? If your score doesn't go up, what will you do? Withdraw? Wait it out and see what happens?

I agree. The advice I've given hinges on the assumption that the OP is confident that he will improve his score.

I actually got an ulcer the week of my MCAT, but I still took the test anyways which was really dumb of me as I was qiute sick during the test. Basically, I did really bad compared to what I was expecting to do. This time around, Im hoping my health will be 100%, and I have restudied the material, so I am hoping to get a 30.

Well if your performance was due to illness and not based on a lack of knowledge, then hopefully you will improve your score. Good luck.
