For the past year or so, I had planned to apply to Dental school in the Summer of 2007. However, I was reading the UF dental website and it said you only have to have your Bio,GChem,OChem done before you apply. I will have all these done except for the Bio2 Lab(Which I am taking in the summer)

My question is, Will I have time to take the DAT at the end of the summer and then apply this summer 06 with only taking Bio,Gchem,Ochem and actually have a chance at getting in? I know it's best to apply in June, but I need to still take the DAT and I've heard that there are animal Phylums on it, which I will learn about in Bio2 Lab. I'm not sure about the time span of getting the Dat scores and stuff, but I'm just trying to save myself a year.

Science GPA:3.74

After Summer I will have finished up Physics 1 as well, confident of an A.

I plan on only applying to UF, UAB, Nova. I am a Florida resident.

You should submit your application in May, which will take 6-8 weeks to process. The schools receive the major part of your application and will wait until they receive your DAT scores. DAT scores only take a fraction of the time to receive (two weeks) and so it's more important that you get your application submitted in May. There are many SDN'ers who submitted in May and sent DAT scores in August and were able to get an acceptances on December 1st. But if you try to send you application in August (most likely the peak of cycle) you will jeopardize your chances by a good amount. I'm not saying people don't do it but it is much harder. Also as for pre-reqs just as long as you will complete them prior to matricluation you are okay. Granted you have taken enough to show your ability to handle the science courses. In your case I think you have.

Again just to emphasize my main point, submit application in May, take DAT when your ready. Scores will arrive and your appliaction will be complete and ready for review. Seriously don't try to take the route your explaining you will have a much more stressful application process if you do. Good luck!

You can send them to the schools directly when you get them. Do you know if your pre-dental advisor collects LOR's for students? If they do it is a good route to go because they will collect and send them for you upon request.

Go ahead and apply. Your DAT scores are sent automatically by the ADA when you complete the test (it is administered on a computer and my schools simply download your scores) - AADSAS does not want them. You should contact your recommendors asap about your LOR's as they need sufficient time to plan ahead. I would give them an unofficial copy of your transcript, a copy of your personal statement, your CV (if you have one), and a LOR matching form (which is explained on AADSAS' website). These are sent in to AADSAS by your recommendors. The actual application is online and it's crucial that you get that done as early as possible. In any event schools only consider your application complete when they have all materials (application, LOR's, transcripts, etc.) - the sooner you can submit these things the better off you will be. Best of luck!

CV = Curriculum Vitae

Vitae, also known as curricula vitae or c.v., are documents that detail your academic and professional accomplishments. Vitae are more comprehensive documents than resumes. They are most often used for academic or research positions, whereas resumes are the preferred documents in business and industry. [Note “vitae” (vee-tie) is the plural form; “vita” (vee-tuh) is singular]

Outside of academia, the terms CV and resume are synonyms. CV is the term used in the UK and some European countries.

In academia, I have seen professors call their normal 1-2 page resume a "CV", and the longer listing of accomplishments a "detailed CV".
