Hey all,

I had a quick question about background checks. I have a speeding ticket on my record from 07 that was in excess of 20 miles over. When I did a personal background check, that cost me 250 dollars at a private investigators office, it didn't show the exact speed. It just showed that it was in excess of 20 miles over. I don't even remember how much I was going over anymore but I am pretty sure it was like 21 or 22 over. In the state and city in which I live this is considered a misdemeanor 2. I was a senior in high school at the time.

So my question is, if a school runs a background check on me and finds this am I SOL?

Thanks everyone!!!

It was four years ago. You have no other offenses. You didn't hurt anyone. You won't be SOL. Don't do it again. An SDNer reported having his acceptance rescinded due to getting a misdemeanor traffic ticket after his getting his letter.

That's a very scary thought since I have been convicted of Reckless driving in my teenage days 🙁

Wasn't that like 10+ years ago? Try not to go on any celebratory rampages before next summer.

edit: or do you mean that you failed to report it?

Thanks Catalystik.

flodhi1, I think what Catalystik said was that you won't be SOL as long as you don't do it again.

Catalystik, thank you again for the response. I had a background check run on myself today and that is all that was on there. I don't have any other offenses. I'm glad something like that from High School can't interfere with going after your dreams.

EDIT: Catalystik, btw, in case that didn't make sense, I meant a second degree misdemeanor, not a misdemeanor as well. If that changes your response please let me know. Thanks!!!

If anyone else has any input on the subject please post. Otherwise, it sounds like case dismissed : ) Thank God.

It was in 2005 and yes I reported it. I did report it a little delayed (after my primary and secondary applicant submission) though because I was unaware at first that it was an actual misdemeanor. Come to find in Virginia almost everything is a misdemeanor/reckless driving from circling cars in parking lots, chirping wheels, car accidents, exceeding 20 mph jeez. According to what I remember when I lived in California if these laws were in Cali almost half of Cali would be "convicts".

Thank goodness. I've been sitting here worrying.

Yeah, I'm a very upfront and a honest person. As soon as I found out I sent an email to all the schools disclosing the Reckless driving misdemeanor prior to my interviews. No one really asked about it though. Come find out that some of the schools did not even check the email 🙁
