Im currently in my first semester as a freshman. I took a light load this year in terms of units, just Bio and Chem +Labs, and Math. Next semester I want to take some more units but not sure what classes I should take.

I'm a Bio major so I need to take all the pre reqs.

I know I'm gonna take Gen Chem II. But I'm not sure about Bio. What is the next class after Bio 1 or whatever you call it? Also, I kind of want to take more classes to balance out my GPA. Taking fewer classes really hurts your GPA if you don't do well in even one of them, so I kind of want to take 1 or 2 more in order to get some A's to pull up my GPA. What classes do you recommend that are not looked down upon as just useless classes?

So your question is what comes after Gen Bio I?.... Um... Gen Bio II.

Do classes that apply to your major and med pre-reqs... like I bet your degree needs physics; well so do most med schools. I bet your degree requires some literatures, so take some literatures. You probably can't take some of the pre-reqs yet because you haven't finished Gen Bio I&II and Gen Chem I&II

It's not called Gen Bio II though. Is there a general outline of the material covered in Bio II though? At least with that I can eliminate all the classes on the list that don't cover that in the description. I don't want to end up taking the wrong Bio class!

A professional or faculty advisor will know the answer to your question. Consult them over SDN for this matter.

The message ground into me by my pre-med advisor is that med schools want to see RIGOR in your undergrad work. So unless you have a good reason for avoiding taking more than two or three classes, I think they'd recommend you bump up your course load a little bit.

Personally, I'm taking Physics, Chemistry, and Bio at the same time, with a fourth class (this semester it was Calc II, next semester Literature or History).

Personally, I'd recommend taking Physics now since it's covered on the MCAT. If not now, you'll have to take it eventually, and that might be when you're taking higher year bio or chem courses. Which time frame sounds easier? Probably best to knock it out now.
