I am a hum major planning on pursuing medical school, and I need to figure out which courses to take to get the requirements done. Is it a bad idea to retake general biology (which I got AP credit for) through my university's extension program, instead of taking upper division biology to cover premed reqs? (I'm not saying I don't want to study more advanced science courses, but I want to make sure I maintain the best gpa possible, and I can always find other ways to learn the material covered in upper div courses without putting my gpa at risk.)

Some medical schools do not accept AP credit so retaking isnt a bad idea

Will it look bad that I chose to take general bio (which will show up as a retake) instead of an upper div bio class? Also my school won't let me retake it so I would have to take it through extension

FWIW I’m applying to 25 schools and all of them take AP credit. Some will ask that you supplement their bio requirement with upper div classes. My advice to you is don’t retake courses you already have credit for and take upper division. It will help you more on the McAT anyway to have courses like genetics and physiology.
