I'm in a sort of unique situation and need some advice.

Basically, there is one school where, for a lot of different reasons, I have a very good chance of getting in early decision. The problem is that, for a lot of other reasons, I would really rather not go to this school.

I'm not happy with my MCAT score right now and am retaking in a few weeks. If I get a good MCAT score, I would like to try to go to some different schools instead of the one where I have an advantage. But by the time I get my score, I will have had to apply early decision already.

I guess my question is, can I withdraw from early decision? Like, apply to my advantage school early decision, plus a bunch of other schools, while I am waiting for my MCAT score to come in. Then, if my MCAT score puts me in a position to have a chance somewhere else, withdraw my early decision application?

Thanks in advance for any help / advice!

My point is that because of some special circumstances, this may be my only shot at going to medical school. And to get that shot, I need to apply early decision. If circumstances change and I have any chance to go ANYWHERE else, I'd like to take that chance. This school treated me really badly and did some really ****ty stuff to me in the 2012 application cycle and are giving me this "almost guaranteed" 2013 early decision as a consolation prize. But because of the way they treated me, I'm not sure if I want to go there.

So to ask my question again - can you withdraw early decision apps?

You must be "formally released" by the school to which you are applying to get out of the EDP and apply to other schools. The institution you applied to seems to have full discretion.

Thanks! That was exactly what I wanted to know. So you are not allowed to even apply to other schools while you've applied early decision?

No. You must either 1) be rejected from EDP or 2) be "released" as I said above. Until one of those things happens, you're barred from applying to other schools.

I was in their post-bacc program and they violated my linkage agreement.

Temple?

I'm getting the feeling that your salty attitude is more towards the post-bacc administration and not the school itself. I too would be pissed if I were in that situation, but you have to ask yourself if you would be happy there, sans the administrators. If yes, then go. You don't want to let your dreams go down in flames out of spite. Especially if it's just the post-bacc coordinators that you aren't pleased with, because odds are you'll have zero interaction with them once in medical school if you so choose.

Apply early decision. Get in. See your dreams come true. Doubt you'll be pissed once school starts.

you might actually find better luck with getting a lawyer... if they clearly state that post bacc students with X performance in the program have a guaranteed seat and they didn't give you one i believe your in the right legal situation to pursue charges. After all this is the same as a scam where someone says "if you buy this i guarantee you'll get X result"

GW. I'd been told multiple times that my grades and MCAT score would let me link from my program, and then they changed their minds once it was too late for me to try to link someplace else. I have a very good chance now for EDP but don't know if I want to take it.
