Hi yall

I was just wondering if adcoms take into account volunteer experiences that are not listed on the amcas because they will be done during the application cycle.

I currently live in Philly because I just graduated from my post bac program. I am now applying to med schools and will be moving back to my hometown in florida at the end of July.

I hope to volunteer at a medical clinic for an underserved mexican community near my hometown of Tampa. If I didnt report this activity in my amcas will my experiences in the fall be taken into account by the adcoms for admission?

I guess I would write an update letter to the schools and if I get invited to an interview mention it to the interviewer.

You always have the option of sending an update letter.

The question is, is it confirmed that you will definitely be doing this in the fall? If so, then you can say something along the lines of "In June, I was selected to ...., an activity which begins in September."

If the activity is not confirmed, then I do not have a straightforward answer for you. In any case, you want to avoid any situation in which it is possible that you listed something on AMCAS that you did not eventually end up doing, especially for interviews.

I did not list this possible activity on my amcas and I have already submitted my amcas. I am sure that I will be able to do this activity starting this fall though in August so I guess I would just send an update letter to the individual med schools that I am applying to when I start the activity.
