Hello all!

I had a couple questions about FAP. I am a low income student (get a full ride from my school + Pell Grant and TAP in NY). I live with my mom and our income level is <25k a year from my mom and I working. I had a personal question about applying for the FAP:

I don't know my father and have no contact with him. When I was filling out forms to apply to college, I got a letter from my guidance counselor to 'prove' I don't have contact with my dad. I heard the FAP requires papers from both parents. Will it be a problem that I have no income/tax info from my dad? My dad is not even from the US and doesn't file taxes here.

Thank you!

I applied for FAP in April 2019. I have a similar situation where I lived in a single parent home and had no relations with my father. You should be able to provide a similar letter that is more up-to-date (maybe from a college counselor?) stating you have no relationship with your father and haven't spoken to him in the last ~X years (when I applied, I think the requirement was 3 years).

I can't speak to how they will qualify your scholarship. I ended up emailing them a dozen or more times over the course of my application for similar questions to this. Hope this helps at least a little bit.

Thank you so much! I'll email them to be sure as well 🙂
