I'm planning on applying to biomedical programs next year and was wondering how competitive it is to get into grad schools. What kind of GPAs & GRE scores do u need to get into a good program? I've yet to take the GREs and I currently have a 3.4 gpa..would this be on the low side? I will however have 2.5 yrs of research experience when I graduate.

It really depends on the program. 3.4 GPA isn't bad. The cutoff is usually 3.0, but there are exceptions too. You can get a book by Princeton Review or some other publisher that publish stats on graduate programs for reference.

Another thing to look at is a listserv devoted to the area of research you are interested in. For example for biomechanics the biomech listserve often posts available assistantships for grad school. A 3.4 GPA, depending on your major, is pretty good, but the research will help you out a lot.

You should aim for GRE scores of > 85%. Also, a lot of schools recommend/require subject GREs too. Make sure you give yourself time for that as well.
