If I were to receive an F, and then make the class up and get an A... Does the F hurt my GPA? Or does it get looked at at all?

Reason being because I'm currently on track to get a high C in OChem... which I do not want 😀

For MD schools, everything counts. For DO schools, your higher grade in the same course gets counted.

For AMCAS they'll basically average the two. For AACOMAS, they'll replace the F with the A (if you were to make that in your retake).

Both AMCAS and AACOMAS will see the F and the A on your transcript.

because it's been beaten into my brain by others here: just to clarify if you get an F then an A on retake for a 3 credit course, it's not 3hours of C, the average grade. it's both classes fully counted so it's 3F and 3A or 6 credits of C grade :/

ewww, thats ugly. Thanks guys!

Yeah so I hate ochem... I stayed up all night and got an F on the test. TWICE!

I'm putting in 20x more work into this class than my other classes, and I'm acing all the other classes (which includes second semester of General Biology).

Isn't it beautiful?

Cool thing though is that if I get an 82% on the final (who am I kidding) i'll get a B in the class. :luck::luck::luck::luck::xf:

Best of luck to you 🙂

so you if you take it twice, once being an F and once being an A, I understand how that comes out to be 6 credits of C. Hypothetically speaking, couldn't I take it once, get an A, then take it again, and get another A so its like 6 credits of A instead of just 3? Just curious

You could and it would. But my school for example wouldn't allow you to retake a class you got an A in. And med schools can see the repeats - its especially marked on the transcript and won't look that great.

With that said, I retook bio 1 as part of my post bac where I got an A the first time since I'm a non trad and it had been 7 years since I took it. I think no one cared about that since I wasn't asked at all about it - but you'd need some kind of extenuating circumstance like that.

Ehhh i dunno, I kinda just wanna go back to chem I after studying for the mcat and get another A in it. Maybe the ADCOMs wouldn't even notice. Can't hurt

Just an update... I somehow managed to get a B in the class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was fully expecting a C.

Getting better grades than you had expected is a gnarly feeling! Congrats to you!

Thank you sir. I've never been happy for a B/C before (I got a C in the Lab portion, 2 units.)... My GPA is like 3.78 (before this). I've had 3 years, so hopefully this doesn't affect it more than .05 (though i haven't done the math yet).

CRAP... wrong thread update... can we unbumpify this thread.. ERRR
