do you need a letter of rec from a DO if you wanna apply to a DO school, is it absolutely necessary??? Thanks

I thought it was required, but when applying to Touro (both NV and MI) I found that they accepted either an MD or a DO letter.

I was specifically asked about DO experiences (shadowing, etc) in all of my interviews, so seems as if it would be HIGHLY recommended.

shuzee,

Some schools require it. However, call and ask the admissions office of the schools to which you are applying. I applied to several DO schools, and they were fine with letters from MDs. 🙂

thanks...im planning to apply only to two DO schools, Western and Touro, do they accept letters from MDs?

As a matter of fact (since I applied to those two schools) they will take a letter from a MD. 🙂

My Question is....

we all know you need a letter from a doc, but in addition to that, what kind of other letters of reccomendation do schools require / recommend?

So do you HAVE to have a letter of rec from a doctor (MD or DO)? I know that allopathic schools dont REQUIRE this. Im sure that its good to have one, but when i look on des moines website i cant find anything that says what you are supposed to have. Im applying to allopathic schools and I have 3 letters of rec, but none of them are from an MD or DO. Just 2 from PhDs and one from somewhere else. Am I going to have to get a rec from a medical professional?

They both accept letters from MDs although they prefer DO letters. I did get accepted to Western with just letter from MD.
