I'm an M4 applying for residency this year. I was wondering, do you have to get two separate sets of letters (one set for prelim/transitional and one set for anesthesia), or can you just use your anesthesia letters for everything? Also, if you do have to get two sets, is it appropriate to ask someone to write you two separate recommendations?

Use the same set of letters for anesthesia and prelim/transitional.
Also use the same personal statement.

OK... I understand the same LORs, but is that accurate information about the personal statement. You really use the same statement for prelim programs?

I put a paragraph at the top that was unique to the prelim year. then i said here is my anesthesia personal statement, then my last sentence was something about a prelim year.

If you are applying out of your geographical area, email the place too and let them know you actually are interested/you have an interview at a advanced program nearby. They get tons of applications because it costs the same for 10 as 1 and people just send them pretty indiscriminantly.

PS I got in.
