Hi. Besides the vaccination, finding a place to live, etc. Is there anything a med student recommends incoming MS1s to do prior matriculation. Is there anything I should review or books I should buy? A little background, I'm interested in transplant surgery so I know the road ahead will be difficult so is there anything I can do right now to prepare for that? Maybe do research this summer? I know its late to apply for a summer research opportunity. Thank you!

Maybe do some pro bono back alley transplant work. That will look great on your residency applications!

Seriously, just chill and enjoy life between now and then. Nothing you can do in the meantime will help you any more than that.

Not in med school myself but I can almost guarantee most people will recommend relaxing and having fun until med school starts. You don't want to be burnt out going into MS1. If you want transplant surgery doing well in med school will be important and being relaxed in order to be ready to attack going into MS1 should be priority right now.

Good luck!

Relax and have fun. If transplant surgery is something you're really interested in you will have plenty of time 1st year to pursue it. Also it's waaayyy easier to get research and shadowing opportunities once you're actually a med student - even if you're admitted already.
