I was wondering how applying to residency work if you go to a mission specific school, as well as what happens if you end up not following the mission statement for that school? Are you allowed to apply to residencies all over the U.S, or do you have to go to the residency associated with your school? Can you get in any sort of trouble if you go to a school, end up moving some where else after your four years, and do not follow the mission statement for it?
They post doesn't really require confidentiality--would you be OK if I move this to the regular pre-med forums?

It's really incumbent on the school to assess how well you will fit their mission before they accept you--so, in general no you don't have to live out their mission, but if you're lying through your teeth about your career intentions it's probably something they'll be able to pick up on. Yes, you can apply for residencies all over the US, though keep in mind that if you're going to a school that is focused on something like primary care or rural medicine, your application for a surgical subspecialty might not be super strong.

You are not obligated to practice family medicine if the school's mission is to produce FM docs. As long as you aren't lying to get in, you can do what you want with your career. There are schools that push FM (lots of DO schools), but just because you go to a DO school doesn't mean you have to do FM.
