Question about my past

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
A classmate of mine got a noise violation 8 years ago and she had to meet with the clinical director asked to meet with her about a month into our first semester. She just had to explain what happened and the director told her she needed to get it expunged asap.

Other than that, I don't have any experience with past issues becoming an issue in school.

If it's expunged you're probably okay. I don't know if I would mention it in your application unless there's a spot that asks you about any past legal problems. They'll probably run a background check on you, and be ready to discuss it if it shows up, which I don't think it will if it's expunged (I don't know how those things work).

A DUI shouldn't prevent you from becoming licensed though, especially if there's nothing else on your record.

Apply get in and get out, don't let anything follow your record further. You're not out at this point. Keep pressing forward to your goal.

Physicians have had blunders in their past, so have PT's too. Know your mistake and own it to improve from here on out. You'll likely do alright.

You don't have a felony on your record and you've mentioned it's expunged. It could be substantially worse off.

This will come up to report likely even though expunged during licensing and possibly due to the big-brother-like reporting of even arrest records that show up in background checks for clinicals. But your case will not bar you from admittance or future career... Learn from your mistake and move forward. Run a background check on yourself when the time comes, and possibly know how laws in your current state affect your situation.

I've talked to researchers who've looked into these topics regarding PT licensing and background checks. You're not alone. Keep your nose clean from here on out and move forward.

Lastly, don't get any further convictions or even arrests. It's not worth playing with your future any more. Young and stupid /= (not equal) disbarment in your case. Make sure who you were then are not who you are now.

Good luck!

Why would anyone berate you ? It seems like you have done enough of that to yourself. Instead celebrate your sobriety and realize some people never learn from their mistakes and you have. You would have to check the state licensing laws where you want to practice ...........but typically you are asked if you have ver been convicted of a felony (not a misdemeanor)charge. If asked about drugs or alcohol problem in the past and you have to answe yes some states will just send you to an addictionologist/psychiatrist to confirm you do not currently have a problem that will impair your safety to practice. You could google the state licensing laws for PT in the state you want to practice to double check. good luck

You should be fine. they cant prevent you from getting into school or getting a license. I know that if you do have a dui before you take your license exam the people will have a meeting with you, but they understand people make mistakes. I have two friends that have duis and they r in school with me.

Best of luck... Don't let your past mess up get you down.
