Hi there!

I just have a question that I have been battling with on my PS. See, I am basically finished with my PS (it's actually done, there's just a few issues), but I need some opinions.

Should it be treated more like an essay or a narrative? I feel like mine's more of a narrative but I gave it to my English professor and she said that I should treat it more like an English essay and write a thesis for it.

I'm just not sure that that is what I want to do. I feel like it takes away from the fact that I'm trying to tell a story. The thesis I thought of is quite general and doesn't give tooo much away but I don't know.

just looking for opinions: a thesis or no thesis?

Thanks!!

Eh. I say no thesis. As long as you thoughts flow together well, the readers shouldn't have a problem figuring out your main point.

I like your username.
haha thanks... it was very appropos when I signed up

but I guess now it's like: I'm applying to med school. FML

hahaha but serisouly any other thoughts on the thesis issue?? (btw, thanks for the reply ksmi117- this is what I was thinking too)

i'd say having a theme >> having a thesis. don't treat it like a formal essay.

I agree, no thesis. This isn't a school report, it's a personal statement.

The only rules for a format are as long as its personal and unique to you then its fine. I also agree no thesis, that for one would be boring, and probably not make a very personal statement.

Yep.

Yeah, I feel like a 'proper thesis' might make one look like kind of a douche.

"All my life, I have learned about myself by helping people. Here are three examples, each with it's own paragraph, and then a final paragraph to remind you that helping people and learning are really what I'm all about."

Ah, much thanks everyone! I guess I will stick with my gut and go with no thesis 🙂
