Hey I am 4th yr med student that is applying to anesthesia. I saw last years interview invite list and it seems like the interviews mostly stopped coming after the end of October. Just wondering if people from last years cycle had any luck in November or if it is not considering a big interview invite month even though the MSPE comes out in Nov 1. If anyone has a rough estimate about how much percent of your interview's came in Nov last year it would be greatly appreciated. I currently have 9, but I am kind of bummed that some of the interviews are not in places that I want. So i am trying to gauge what November will be like

i second that, also have 9, but a few in places i'd really rather not be...last year's thread was pretty much dead after october. i'd like to know what november was ilke as well...

i didn't interview last last year, but i can tell you that i matched at my #1 choice, after they offered me an interview in january.

people cancel and those spots get filled. stay in touch with programs via courteous communication (email/phone) and you will get more interviews as the drama unfolds... good luck!!

A lot of good programs wait for the Dean's letter if your application is good but you weren't AOA. I went to a good school, did anesthesia research, had great letters, but wasn't AOA - most of the programs high on my list did not give me an interview until after the Dean's Letter (think I got 5ish invites in November). I figured they were just waiting for the grades and when they saw they weren't awful just sent an interview.

For the record, I ranked first and matched at a program that didn't invite me until November, so keep your head up :luck:

A lot of the big boys wait until November

Agreed. Some of the best places I applied to sent interview invites after the Dean's letter was released in November, including the program I eventually ranked first (and matched). 4 of my top 5 ranks were November invites...

In addition, if you haven't heard from a program you're particularly interested in, calling and politely inquiring about the status of your application can only help you, in my opinion. Hang in there, guys.

Good advice: call and politely tell them you are very interested in the program and area and wanted to check on ur application. I got an interview out of this. It was one I ranked in the middle but was still good to see. They said they hadnt offered me an interview because i had no reason to want to come to that part of the country but since i was interested they wanted to have me. If you really want someplace tell them.

I don't have any interviews yet, but all I can do is wait. Probably on the second I'll give some programs a call and express my interest after they had a chance to look at my MSPE. I emailed a dozen of them a week ago, but I only received a response from one of them saying they are reviewing my app. etc.

FYI I'm US IMG, Ross. 229/99,224/97,cs pass/3.65 gpa/good LOR's/anesthesia elective submitted sept 1.

229 and no interviews at all: did you apply very broadly? The lower Step2 isn't so good but it's not dramatically lower and I have no idea how much a carib school matters. I'm surprised you don't have any interviews, makes all us up and coming anesthesia applicants a bit nervous. What will you do if nothing happens?

IMG status does matter. Those are about average score for US seniors. How many progs did you apply to Gasmonkey, and where. I would think you would get interviews if you applied broadly.

I applied to over 55 schools, (no crazy schools such as Harvard, duke, UAB, etc.) Most of them are bottom feeder schools to average.

If I don't make it, I guess I'll take step 3, and maybe try to work at some of the places I applied to on a volunteer basis (might have to get my own malpractice insurance), and then reapply next year. I started the Ross in Jan 09 and I managed to make this match (so in reality, I finished med school + applied in less then 3.5 years). So yeah I'm ahead of the typical med student, but it would unfortunate to have to reapply next year.

Another girl from my school has identical board scores, she has no interviews either.

Some schools wait for dean's letters (usu Nov 1). Good luck.

This is crazy. Your numbers are good for many of the programs. If it was mid October, I would've told you to email the programs to let them know you're still interested. Now it's too close to the MSPE to do that. I'd email them after your MSPE to let them know you're still interested.

Already ahead of you, emailed about 15 programs. Only received a response from 1 (penn state).

Tough sledding I guess.

Oh, and I emailed these programs mid-oct. too.

I'm going to wait a few days after the MSPE comes out, then start calling people. I didn't want to be overbearing and call them in Oct.

I guess the only good news is that I've only been rejected from 4 or 5 out of the 55.
