So I didn't do so hot on the April mcat, so I was planning on submitting my AMCAS application within the next week. However, I am wondering shoudl I just put down like my state school and a couple of schools that I am for sure applying to. I had a list of 15 or so, but I was thinking about just submitting my AMCAS with only like 5 schools. I was planning on adding more schools after August MCAT, or is this a bad idea? Should I just go ahead and put the 15 schools now, or should I wait to add? Will it make the med schools receive my application later if I add them on after the Aug. MCAT or will they still get it in time? I just want to have my application out soon, and dont know how I should approach the schools im applying to.

thanks

What's your MCAT score & GPA?

3.78 overall from top 20 school
3.59 BCPM

i want to know wht others have to say coz i am planning on something like this too

It is much easier to send info to schools initially and THEN send then updated information. The race--and I say race for a reason--of medical school admissons is to be won using early application. You will at least get the rest of your application read, and the school knows you will be submitting August MCAT because you specify it somewhere in there. THe earlier you submit, the earlier you get certified and filed.

The MCAT is low. I think it is reasonable to apply to 10-15 schools now (safety, middle tier, your state school, and one/two 'dream schools') and determine how many interviews you'll receive. Re-take the MCAT in Aug. If you don't improve, then you'll be stuck until you show significant improvement. One of my colleagues retook the MCAT 3 times. The 3rd time he rocked it, and now he's an ophthalmology resident at one of the top 5 programs. Don't give up hope. 😉

The other option is to apply full-force this year. If you fail to get in, then you know what you need to improve. Retake the test next Spring, and then apply with confidence.
