Hello everyone,

I have been reading different threads about onlinepre-requisites being or not accepted in all cases by different pharmacy schoolsand I'm confused regarding this point.

When I entered my course work into PharmCAS this year, I hada few online classes as part of my pre-requisites. They were mostly humanitiesand social sciences, but still online classes. I didn’t notice the sectionwhere I was supposed to specify any of them as online. I just looked again nowafter reading here in the forums, and certainly I found the place (Special Classification)but it is obviously too late now to change that because my application was sentalready to the schools and besides the “Academic Update” period is closedalready.

What confuses me is the fact that PharmCAS verified thecourse work I entered against the official transcripts they got from the collegewhere I took the pre-requisites and they didn’t change the classification ofthe course to ONLINE in any of those few cases I unintentionally missed (eventhough they are supposed to correct stuff like that). So I checked again in mycopy of the official transcripts and I cannot find any special marking or codedeclaring the class as ONLINE.

Anyway, if this is the case in general (I haven’t seen manytranscripts from different universities) and PharmCAS and/or the school you areapplying for don’t have a way to know if the class was taken online or inperson, then why would you mention it in the first place, if you think it could“complicate” your chances of admission? I mean, other than the fact of beingcompletely honest or not.

I’m not trying to be “smart” and commit fraud in theapplication. Believe it or not the couple of classes I took online, I reallydidn’t notice the online option in the course work description. Otherwise I wouldhad specified it because humanities and social sciences are not a big deal forany school.

But I’m wondering what would happen for someone that tookmath, chemistry or biology online and don’t specify it in the application. Ifyou think about it, the fact that you take a class online doesn’t necessarily makeit easier to pass. It could just be a matter of accommodating you schedulebecause of work or kids.

What do you guys think?

As with most issues of this nature, you're best off contacting the school and seeing their specific requirements regarding online classes. Some schools accept them, some schools accept them for non-science coursework, and others refuse to accept them at all.

Most likely you need to take all the science courses w/ hands on experience ON campus. This is pretty much required by most of the schools, which is to display your interaction with different courses instead of doing it online. But you can get by taking online electives that which I know.

If some schools curriculum is online that offers bachelors, that's a different story.

i understand what you guys say, but my point was how does PharmCAS and/or the schools know that any class was taken online or in person? My transcripts don't have anything special related to any of the classes i took online.

Then you probably don't have to list it! If you register a course under the classes taken, there is a drop down link under circumstances to choose "online" course.

Check with the school you are applying and let them know your situation. You'll get an answer 🙂

You know you are going to get the official answer in a public forum, right? And that official answer is "tell the school, even if there was no fraudulent intent." Wouldn't you hate for them to figure it out too late for you to do anything about it, and they rescind your acceptance. (I'm not saying it seems likely.)

Is there a different answer you're looking for? We're not going to tell you how to or that you should game the system... 😕

You are right.
It was just a question though. In my case i only had 2 online classes and none of them were sciences. I already asked the schools I applied to and they told me it was OK.

I was just wondering anyway.
