I have a question. I need to get physics 1 and 2 and both labs done, I put them off for a long time. I don't want to be stuck in Gainesville this summer paying for a place for just these classes, and furthermore, physics here is really hard. I'd rather be back home, close to my girlfriend, but more importantly, 😀 , I'd rather feel confident in taking the DAT. I think I could contribute much more time to preparing for it and taking it in May or June then I could in G-ville at UF. I'd take physics at a comm college back home, a fairly decent one too. Plus, here at UF, I could only take physics 1 and its all summer long. Back home, I could get phys 1 and 2 done, along with labs. What do u think? Go for the physics 1, and get a B or A but risk all my time, pay alot of money, but do it because apparently "dental schools like grades from 4 year schools", or ace my DAT and feel secure, and knock out phys 1 2 annd both labs. Just curious b/c I always hear people say physics is tough as hell here at UF, I have a 3.9 gpa i dont wanna mess up, and people say dental schools frown upon comm college classes. I know lots of acceptees who went to comm college for 2 years tho. Whatdo u think? Thanks

Why don't you just take physics AFTER you apply to dental school?

If you're lucky, some schools will even let you waive Physics 2.

oh gavin... don't give him any wise ideas.

physics 2 is electricity and magnetism and is one of the most interesting classes available at the undergrad level.

I'm bored, so I'll do the math for you. Assuming you have 100 credits.

Number of A units: x
Number of B units: 100-x (since your GPA is 3.9, it's most likely that you didn't have any worse grade)

[4(x) + 3(100-x)]/100 = 3.9

or x = 90

Now, if you get a B for your Physics 1 (4-unit course), your GPA will be:

[4*90 + 3*(10+4)]/(100+4) = 3.865

Hope that helps you make your decision easier.

PS: Doesn't it sound like a DAT question? 😉

Listen to Gavin and don't rush to be a glutton for punishment. Physics is pretty much hard everywhere, especially if you take it all over the summer. It's doable, and trust me, once the class is finished all of those highly useful equations and what-nots will fly right out of your head.

Why do I need to take physics summer of my junior year? BECAUSE I NEED IT BEFORE I CAN TAKE PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY!!! Some people actually need this for the major...but the question still arises...does it matter if I take it at a comm college for dental school?

My hunch is no, it shouldn't matter if you took it at a community college over the summer.
