Hello all,
I am doing a post-bacc program and I recently just finished Physics 1. I ended up with a C and it was truly one of the hardest classes that I have taken to date. Would anyone recommend that I retake the class to try and get a better grade or should I just leave well-enough alone? I have a 3.3 gpa from undergrad and I majored in Cultural Anthropology. I am currently volunteering at Planned Parenthood and a local Kaiser hospital. I will be taking the MCAT in April. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

If you are suggesting you are going to take the MCAT before finishing physics 2 (and after struggling with physics 1), I would suggest postponing the MCAT. Physics is going to be on there. Doing well in that section matters. Finish up all the prereqs in their entirety, and only THEN sit for the MCAT, having done competitively on multiple full length practice tests. The folks who self learn the latter half of physics 2 etc and do fine on the MCAT tend to be the sciency folks who are getting A's in all the prereqs. You are going to need to finish up the courses and actually devote some time to studying for this test.

No i am not suggesting that I would take the MCAT before I finish physics 2. I will be done with all of my pre-requisites before I take the MCAT.I left out that I will be taking the MCAT in April 2009. 😕

Best advice I could give is see what you get in the rest of the pre-reqs. 1 C is survivable I would think, although it being in your post-bac hurts. A few C's in your post-bac may be digging a deep hole that will not be easy to get out of.

Was that the first prereq you have taken?
If not, how have you done in the other courses.
Coming from a non-science background you will have to learn to do well in your science classes. Also realize that science classes may take twice the amount of time as you devoted to non-science classes. Make sure you figure out what went wrong before taking any other classes. One C won't kill you, but a few of them probably will.

I agree. Also OP, keep in mind that Physics II is much different than Physics I. Not harder, just different topics. I personally thought that Physics II was much easier.

I have taken the first chemistry course in a sequence of 4 and got a B. I also took Human Bio and got an A. I am seriously considering re-taking physics 1 because I don't want it to jeopardize my chances of getting into medical school.
