So back on October 9th, I submitted my Pitt application at 12:30 AM and got an interview invite that same day at 9:00AM. I did not have my letters of recommendation sent out yet so I was a little shocked because everywhere else I applied said that was the one thing holding up the review process. Even after they were in on October 20th and all the schools said my application was complete, I have not received another offer. I've talked about this with my advisors and a buddy of mine that is applying to med schools but not to Pitt and they think that Pitt may have slated me as off-limits to other schools. According to my advisor, med schools talk about candidates and sometimes tell others not to offer interviews to certain applicants because the medical school wants that particular candidate.

I feel like I'm getting smoke blown up my butt though from the people I've talked with. Has anyone else heard anything like this before?

  are u really amish? i don't know if you are joking or not but pitt offers automatic interviews to some candidates based on their grades/stats. maybe the other schools you applied to are still screening.

Well, some family members have been amish and for some reason people started calling me that in 6th grade.

I was not joking about the Pitt thing either. I thought someone was pranking me when I got the invitation. I mean it's freakin' 9 hours! With no recommendations! For all they knew I could've been a d-bag with no genuine motivation to get into medicine. But sure enough when I clicked on the link, it took me to Pitt's scheduling site and the school confirmed it later that day. I mean, if I show up there on Jan 8th and they don't have my stuff, then I'll know that it was the greatest rouse EVER.

Thanks for the response though!

Sorry!

Pitt offeres automatic interview to poeple with certian GPA/MCAT scores. And no, schools don't label you as off limits! Every school wants the best students and the fact that any school would actualy respect another schools wish to not interview a candidate is absoluly ridiculous. Most likely the reason you don't have any other interview is because all the schools seem rather behind (in my experience at least), keep waiting, and if u do call pitt and tell them to stop asking other schools not to interview you i would really like to know how that conversation goes..

You should totally do it. I mean, this is a mystery indeed as to why other schools arn't offering you an interview...

...or, I smell smoke. There's a few schools that offer automatic interviews. And the schools you've applied to don't know where you've applied until May 15th, after which, if you are still holding multiple acceptances, they will indeed tell other schools not to accept you (and they'll drop your offer too).

Out of curiosity, what are these numbers for instant interview at pitt? I haven't finished my secondary yet 😳 and I was wondering if anyone knew what these numbers are, or if they had any general idea.

And also, OP, mind telling us what your numbers are?

And congrats!

my numbers were 35R for the MCAT, 3.5 Total GPA, and 3.43 science GPA for what it's worth...

i've said this in other posts, but just to throw it out there again: one of the women in the admissions office told me that they do not offer "automatic interviews" based purely on numbers. she said that they are just really on top of their applications. i thought that maybe they review the primary, select people for interviews based on that, and then do a quick review of those people's secondaries just to make sure...that would allow them to make such quick offers. but the woman wouldn't tell me any details, so i guess we won't know.

i think there were a few people on here though who said they had high scores but didn't get an interview...and some people with what might be considered lower scores that DID get an interview. so i don't think it's only numbers-based.

Holy smokes!

I think I may win the turn-around time contest. Literally, 40 minutes.

Erina, I'm not sure how much that "no automatic interview" theory holds water now.

Whatever, I'm way too overjoyed to care and overanalyze.

*throws a party*😍

Nope, I win 😀 Pitt invited me to interview before I submitted my secondary, about a month after my primary was verified. Whether or not this counts as an auto-invite depends on your definition of auto-invites. It is possible that they looked over my primary quite extensively and decided to interview me based on that, or they might have just looked at my numbers - who knows? Regardless, it seems pretty clear that Pitt, in many cases, does not look at the secondary when giving out interview invites. I'm sure it's important in the final admissions decision though.
