Interview early or late?

  • Early (more towards Oct)

  • Late (more towards Jan)

  • Does not matter either way, as long as you interview at certain point

For residents/interns and folks like me who are trying to schedule interviews in a sensible manner, does it matter if you interview at these places early (Oct) or late (Jan) in the interview season? I would actually imagine that it would be advantageous to interview late at places higher on the list because:
1. You have more experience with previous interviews and thus better prepared for this one
2. Fresher impression with the interviewers during ranking

What do you guys think? Appreciate any input. Thank you!

I think there are as many schools of thought on this question as there are med students, residents, and attendings.

Regarding the "practice makes perfect" thought - for me, I got exhausted of having the same conversation over and over at different sites. Interview season is fun, but it can be somewhat grueling with all the travel.

I'd get it out of the way if I were you, and then have a nice relaxing Jan/Feb, MS4 schedule permitting.
