When schools refer to science gpa, do they mean gpa of science classes? or gpa of premed pre reqs? which include english ?

sorry. very new to this whole process as I have just started to consider a career in healthcare after being set on law(currently a sophmore CC).

Search it. You're after a lengthy list.

Anything biology, chemistry, physics, or math.

My apologies, I read the op wrong.

I thought he was asking which med schools focused on sgpa more than others. Need to get off the computer. 😴

wow! astronomy meets a physics requirement? Good news if so since I already completed/ A.

Also regarding math, if you took a lower level math course does that count into your sGPA as well?

Yes, every math course will count (for MD schools, DO schools don't factor in math courses).
Wow, thats a new one for me. My math is fine but I will most def. be applying to DO schools.

Thank you guys so much for being so informative and helping me through the process. Just to reiterate: Since I have completed an astronomy class, I only need to complete 1 more semester of physics?

Technically yes (if astronomy comes with a lab) though you might want to consider taking the second semester of intro physics anyway since it is tested on the MCAT. All you need to satisfy the physics requirement for med school admissions is 'a year of physics with lab.'

Astronomy is a physical science, however it does not satisfy the physics requirement for medical schools...

I second this... technically it might be in the physics department, but schools with a year of physics w/lab requirement are expecting a year of general physics. You won't do yourself any favors with admissions committees by trying to squeeze by without it.

And, of course, the MCAT. 😉

Thanks for the info once again guys. Although it does not fulfill the requirement, does it still count towards your science GPA?

how would english be considered a science class?

It does seem like a pretty silly question for me to ask, but since it is listed as a requirement for medical school I thought that for some reason it would fit in that category of GPA rather than just your overall GPA.

My bad. 🙂
